Small Business Spotlight: Mills International, Inc.
In Eastern North Carolina, having a reliable local dealer for agricultural equipment and parts is essential. Mills International, Inc. is a small business with deep roots in Lenoir County. Established on June 1, 1967, the company has proudly served the region for decades as a family-owned and operated business.
Founded by James C. “Jim” Mills, a former territory representative for International Harvester, the company was built on a desire to return home to North Carolina and serve the local farming community. What began as a single dealership has grown into a trusted source for quality equipment and dependable service.
Mills International takes pride in delivering excellent customer care, treating every customer like family. Over the years, the company has supported local farms with reliable equipment and expert service, earning numerous industry honors along the way. These include recognition as a Cub Cadet Top Dealer and Top 100 in sales for more than 40 years, as well as awards such as Top North American Cotton Picker Dealer, Dealer of the Year, Retailer of the Year, and the Kinston-Lenoir County Small Business of the Year Award.
Like many long-standing businesses, Mills International has faced its share of challenges. Construction that limited access to the dealership and historic flooding caused by Hurricane Matthew tested the company’s resilience. Despite preparations based on past flood levels from Hurricane Floyd, rising waters exceeded expectations and resulted in significant losses.
Even through these hardships, the Mills family has remained a strong and steady presence in the community. Their commitment to serving Eastern North Carolina has never wavered, and they continue to look ahead with optimism and determination. Mills International remains dedicated to supporting local agriculture and serving the community for generations to come.
